Hi, I'm Katie.I thrive in the organization, retrieval, and dissemination of knowledge and intend to immerse myself in this fascinating field of library and information science. Exposure to a myriad of topics and perspectives throughout my collegiate career has deepened my appreciation for the transformative power of information and storytelling, and I believe I will be a valuable asset to the field of information as it continues to expand.
My bachelor’s degree in history and corresponding teaching experience were crucial to my understanding of different perspectives, global contexts, and the right questions to ask. My studies and experiences related to the Information Studies program at UT Austin have enhanced my detail-oriented research skills and allowed me to contextualize the role that information and technology play in a variety of academic environments. Both of these programs have pushed me to accrue experience working with digital and print resources to synthesize and utilize information for various purposes such as teaching, writing, and research. I have worked in a variety of library department settings that have allowed me to acquire certain professional skills. In the Interlibrary Loan department at Alkek Library, I developed a logical workflow that allowed me to process loan requests, label, package, and address loan materials with accuracy and efficiency. At the circulation and tech help desks at Tarlton Law Library, I was able to work on identifying and fulfilling user needs with patience and precision. In the Special Collections department, I apply my inquisitive nature and research skills to process and reformat archival collections to make them as accessible as possible to researchers. I would like to be considered for positions involved in the acquisition, analysis, and promulgation of information. This is a very general job description for a reason; I can reasonably envision myself working in a variety of academic environments in which my skills would be usable. My particular areas of interest include archives, research librarianship, and institutional research analysis. |
